DPSI, Gurgaon Casts a Spell of Creativity with PYP Annual Day “Harry Potter… Reimagined”

Gurugram: DPS International, Gurgaon, brought the magic of imagination, courage and friendship to life with its Primary Years Programme (PYP) Annual Day, “Harry Potter… Reimagined”, on October 14, 2026. Presented by the school’s Grade 4 and Grade 5 students, the event celebrated the timeless appeal of the magical world of Hogwarts while offering a fresh perspective on its enduring lessons. Through the theme, students explored the power of choices, the importance of standing up for what is right, and the belief that true magic lies in kindness, courage and the ability to make a difference. The annual celebration reflected the school’s commitment to nurturing confident, creative and compassionate learners through meaningful, experiential opportunities.

The event welcomed over more than 300 attendees, including parents, members of the school leadership, educators and distinguished invitees. The programme unfolded as an engaging theatrical experience, bringing together storytelling, music, dance, drama and visual expression. Through imaginative interpretations of the world of Harry Potter, students transported the audience to a world of spells, adventure and discovery, while connecting its familiar characters and challenges to values relevant to today’s young learners. The students’ performances showcased their confidence, creativity and ability to collaborate, transforming months of preparation into a memorable celebration of learning and expression.

Reflecting on the significance of the occasion, Ms Devyani Jaipuria, Pro-Vice Chairperson, DPSI said, “At DPS International,we strongly believe that education should not be limited to mere scholastic success but must also enable children to become imaginative, brave, empathic and responsible beings. Experiences like the PYP Annual Day help children realize their capabilities, express themselves confidently and appreciate the consequences of their actions. Our aim is to ensure that every child becomes empowered enough to think independently, use creativity and emerge as compassionate individuals who can make a difference to this world.”

Ms Rima Singh, Head of School, DPSI said, “Experiential learning plays a vital role in helping children connect classroom lessons with real-life values and experiences. Through ‘Harry Potter… Reimagined’, the students of Grades 4 and 5 explored the virtues of friendship, honesty, courage and kindness. Bringing the production to life also gave them an opportunity to take ownership of their responsibilities, express their creativity and experience the joy of turning their ideas into a meaningful performance.”

Beyond its theatrical splendour, the preparation for the annual day enabled students to develop communication, collaboration, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills while taking ownership of their roles and responsibilities. From interpreting characters and developing performances to working collectively towards a shared vision, students experienced how learning extends beyond the classroom. This approach reinforces DPS International’s belief that education must nurture the whole child—intellectually, socially, emotionally and creatively.

The participation of Grade 4 and Grade 5 students demonstrated the value of perseverance, teamwork and student agency. By contributing to a shared creative endeavour, learners strengthened their confidence, discovered new talents and experienced the satisfaction of turning ideas into meaningful outcomes.

As the magical world of Hogwarts gave way to the lasting lessons of the evening, the central message remained clear: courage, kindness and integrity are choices that shape our world. DPS International, Gurgaon, will continue to create opportunities that bring learning to life through the arts, inquiry, service and experiential education. By combining academic rigour with creativity, well-being and a strong sense of responsibility, the school remains committed to developing lifelong learners and compassionate global citizens who are prepared to make a positive difference in an ever-changing world.
