Pune: Rudra Singh, a promising young squash player and student of CP Goenka International School, has earned selection to represent India at the World Junior Squash Championship. The event is scheduled to be held in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada, from July 20 to 31.
Rudra will be part of the four-member Indian team comprising Anahat, Anika, and Saanvi, with Unatti named as the reserve player.
Her qualification came after an impressive performance in the World Junior Selection Trials conducted by the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) in Chennai. The trials, held from May 4 to 8 for the country’s top talent, concluded on Saturday, with Rudra reaching the final through strong and consistent play.
Last year, Rudra represented India at the Asian Junior Squash Championship in Korea and the World Junior Squash Championship in Egypt. With this valuable international experience, she is expected to deliver a stronger performance in Canada and win laurels for the country.
Notably, Rudra had taken a break from the sport this year to prepare for and appear in her A-Level 12th board examinations. Despite the long layoff, she showcased remarkable resilience and form to secure her place in the team India.
