Pune: Ryan International Academy, Bavdhan, conducted an engaging and immersive experiential learning programme titled “Landforms Across Continents: Exploring India, Russia and the USA” for Grade II students during September and October. 49 enthusiastic kids participated in this three-week-long initiative was held from 15th to 26th September and 13th to 17th October
The initiative focused on introducing young learners to major geographical landforms while offering a global perspective. Through this activity not only did the students explore and compare prominent landforms found across India, Russia, and the United States and developed an early appreciation for geographical diversity beyond their immediate surroundings but also identify, understand similarities and differences among various landforms.
The programme was carefully structured as an interdisciplinary learning experience, integrating English, Geography, Mathematics, Art, and ICT, enabling students to connect concepts across subjects while fostering curiosity and critical thinking.
The learning journey began with teacher-led visual presentations that introduced students to key landforms such as mountains, plains, valleys, rivers, and plateaus across the three countries. Building on this foundation, students participated in a mini role-play activity where each child selected a landform and confidently described its characteristics. This activity reinforced conceptual understanding while enhancing communication skills, self-expression, and confidence.
To deepen understanding further, students engaged in a range of creative, hands-on activities. One of the highlights was the edible landform activity, where students used bread to carve and shape different landforms, transforming abstract geographical concepts into tangible learning experiences. Mathematical concepts were also integrated as students used geometrical shapes to construct landforms, strengthening spatial reasoning and reinforcing prior learning in a fun and engaging manner.
Additional key component involved identifying iconic landforms and correctly associating them with the countries where they are found. Students compared features across India, Russia, and the USA, discussing similarities and differences that encouraged analytical thinking and broadened their global outlook. The programme concluded with an interactive digital quiz, which assessed students’ understanding of landforms, country names, national flags, and well-known geographical features, while also introducing them to basic digital learning tools.
