Nagpur: The Global Indian International School (GIIS), Lava, Nagpur, in collaboration with Nikon, organised an immersive photography workshop under the Global Schools – Nikon School of Creativity initiative, as part of the Youth India Programme. The initiative reflects a growing partnership between GIIS and Nikon India to nurture creative talent and build visual storytelling skills among students through structured, industry-led learning experiences.
Conducted as part of this broader creative learning ecosystem, the workshop engaged students from Grades V to VIII in a hands-on exploration of photography, visual storytelling, and creative expression. Designed to go beyond conventional classroom learning, the session offered a dynamic platform that blended technical understanding with artistic discovery, encouraging students to observe, interpret, and capture the world around them through a creative lens.
The session was led by renowned photographer and educator Ms. Arya Chitra, General Manager, NIKON Youth & Kids Program, who introduced students to key photography concepts including camera handling, framing, composition, and narrative-building. Her session emphasised the importance of visual literacy in today’s digital-first world, while inspiring students to develop their own creative voice through imagery.
The Global Schools – Nikon School of Creativity is a first-of-its-kind initiative that brings together global educational expertise and industry leadership to create a structured platform for photography and visual storytelling education, further strengthened at GIIS Nagpur by its smart-tech infrastructure and skill-based facilities that actively encourage self-expression and creativity among students. Through guided, hands-on learning modules led by industry experts, the programme aims to equip students with both technical proficiency and creative confidence, positioning photography as a powerful medium for expression, communication, and innovation.
The workshop also saw enthusiastic participation from parents, adding to the collaborative learning environment and further encouraging students to explore and showcase their creative potential.
As part of the session, students were evaluated on their creativity, perspective, and execution, with Shreesh Kale (Grade 8), V. Lakshan Sai (Grade 7), and Saavi Deshpande (Grade 5) emerging as winners for their outstanding photography work, demonstrating strong visual storytelling ability and originality.
